Hi, my name is Howe Gelb
Der Songwriter aus Tuscon in Arizona gilt bei Kennern der Musikszene als „graue Eminenz des US-amerikanischen Gitarren-Undergrounds“. Und wahrlich gibt er mit seiner Bandfamilie Giant Sand auf der Bühne zu verstehen, dass Westernmusik unüberhörbar vielseitig sein kann. Grungig und vom countryesken Blues durchdrungen, produzierte der Leadsänger in der langen Karriere bereits 50 Platten. Auf seiner Europa-Tour stellt er mit Giant Sand nun das hochgelobte, aktuelle Album ‚Heartbreak Pass’ vor. Darauf vertreten sind u.a. Jason Lytle von Grandaddy, der Sonic Youth Drummer Steve Shelley, Grant-Lee Phillips und der Produzent und Musiker John Parish (PJ Harvey, Eels). Der Musikexpress lobt das Album enthusiastisch als „eine prima Einstiegsdroge für kommende Gelbster”. Wer den Mann, dessen Stimme runtergeht wie ein gut gereifter Whiskey, nicht kennt, sollte sich diesen Longplayer nicht entgehen lassen. Ich gab mir nach dem Konzert in Berlin einen kleinen Schlagabtausch mit dem zeitlosen Cowboy. Was Herr Gelb zu sagen hat, könnt ihr hier kurz und prägnant lesen. Und Bitte…!
