Selten hat mich die Stimmung von Bildern so gefesselt, wie der Anblick von Polinas Fotografien. Zeitlos, zärtlich und doch mit einer gewissen Distanz zum Gesehenen offenbart ihr Blick die Seele des Moments. Die Ästhetik ihrer Aufnahmen strömen dabei quasi etwas Magisches aus. Warum? Vielleicht weil jedes einzelne ihrer Bilder eine Geschichte erzählt, sei es noch so minimalistisch oder rudimentär in der Gestaltung. Es sind Fotografien, die im Gedächtnis hängenbleiben und an die man sich auch nach Monaten noch zurückerinnert. Kurz und gut: In ihnen steckt die Essenz der Fotografie, oder zu mindestens jene nach meinem Geschmack. Dürfte ich die Bilder musikalisch übersetzen, würde ich mir wahrscheinlich das Air Album „Talkie Walkie“ vornehmen.

What’s your photography about?

I mostly film when I travel. I can’t label my photography as a travel photography though, it’s more about mood, air and atmosphere. Travels often give me that feeling of freedom and inspiration, that are not quite there, when I am at home. My instagram name, actually, was made up back in years. Taiga is a region, in Russia, far away, it’s a biome with pines and moss – at least, that’s how I imagine that to myself. I just like how two words are together – taigasound.

How everything got started?

I started to make photos during my first semester at university. I was studying journalism, unfortunately I was just half a year late to choose a uni more related to photography or cinematography. In Russia, we choose future profession at the age of 14-16, which I find a very young age to do that, and then we rarely drop studies, because we spent so much time to prepare. My real passion for photography came a few years later, when I stopped doing digital photography and started to experiment with film. I liked all that pushing, pulling, cross-processing. Even though now I do digital, I still colorize with a touch of film mood.

Photographers you admire…

When I was shooting fashion, I was really crazy about several photographers, which are still symbols of perfection in fashion photography for me – Bruno Dayan, Paolo Roversi, Mert and Marcus. Speaking about photography in general, I could mention a lot of names, but instead I will write one: William Eggleston, who is much more than a photographer for me.

Your equipment consists of…

My equipment for the last 9 years is a full-frame digital camera and 35mm lens. Not much more to say here. Classical set-up, which frees your mind.
